What Is A Domain Forward?

web-domain

A domain forward is the process of redirecting a website visitor to a different URL than the one the visitor originally entered.

A domain forward can be useful when a company has a URL that is hard to spell, contains any word that is a homophone (like too, two, 2, and to) or if a company is recognized by multiple brand keywords.

With a domain forward an organization can have one website that services multiple domains. From a marketing perspective this ensures visitors trying to reach your website are successfully able to do so.

From an SEO standpoint, search engines will not rank each domain as a separate website. Search engines will detect the redirect and index the destination website instead.

For transparency’s sake, when, when a web page redirects a visitor to another website, the domain’s name in the URL bar updates to the destination domain name.
